Summer Events in Aspen

Every year, there are hundreds of different events to attend in the Aspen area. You could take an entire summer and attend every event you heard of, and there would still be something new to experience. There are some “cult classic” events, however, that bring people to town year after year.

The infamous “Food and Wine Classic” is *the* event to attend in the early summer season. Everyone in town begins to recognize it’s time for Food & Wine when the white tents appear. Attendees cannot wait to enter the fenced off grass arena, knowing it will be filled with wine, delicious treats, and celebrity chefs. Those without tickets wait with bated breath for the excellent people-watching that occurs all throughout Food & Wine weekend. Although a consumer pass costs a pretty penny, upwards of $1,600, those who attend the event only have wonderful things to say. If the pass is in your budget, it’s guaranteed you’ll have a weekend of gorgeous scenery, delicious food, and fun. Food & Wine is a must-do in Aspen.

Another classic event is the “Aspen Ideas Festival.” This event occurs every year at the end of June. This festival was founded in 2005. Experts in their respective fields come from all over the world to discuss a variety of topics. With ten days scheduled to discuss all kinds of topics, the three thousand attendees this summer will be sure to walk away feeling informed and refreshed. Although Food & Wine has come and gone, you can still buy tickets to the Aspen Ideas Festival!

Weekly Events

Aspen has tons of things to do, and not just “once-in-a-lifetime” events. There are plenty of events that occur every week on a set schedule. One of these is the Aspen Farmer’s Market. It’s a great way to unwind. Lots of visitors find themselves budgeting time on their last Saturday in Aspen to explore the market. Some staples at the market include Colorado grown produce, handmade crafts, and live music. Our favorite here at Aspen Whitewater Rafting is the delicious popcorn stand. Saturdays are bearable in the office for lots of reasons, but one of the best is being able to run out and grab a big bag of sweet and salty popcorn to munch.  The market runs from 8:30am – 3pm and has been an Aspen staple since 1998.

One of my favorite events are the Farm to Table Tuesdays that Elk Camp holds throughout the summer, starting in July. Tickets include a complimentary ride on the Elk Camp Gondola. There you’ll find the Elk Camp Restaurant where Rock Bottom Ranch brings homegrown, locally sourced food. They have lawn games and local beer and distillery tastings. Some of the Lost Forest activities are available, for an additional fee. The Culinary Director for Aspen Skiing Company, Jim Butchart, describes it as a mix between a farmer’s market approach and an open tasting. A seriously lovely way to spend an evening, with gorgeous views to boot.
