Paddlefest 2016 | Fun on Whitewater

don-kayakThe summer season is swiftly approaching, and there is much fun on whitewater to look forward to. One event stands out that really solidifies the changing of the seasons in Colorado, and that’s Paddlefest. Located in Buena Vista, CO, on the Arkansas River, this annual fundraiser benefits Chaffee County Search and Rescue North and is welcome to anyone excited about river sports.

Activities begin on May 27 at 9:00 AM and runs into the afternoon on Monday, May 30. Paddlefest helps to get everyone thinking about river activities and is located in the heart of the Arkansas River, the most rafted section of whitewater in the country. Sections such as Pine Creek, Numbers, Fractions (also referred to as Narrows), and Browns Canyon are filling up and available to those adventurous enough to enjoy the outdoors on the river. Browns Canyon is one of the most quintessential sections in Colorado, perfect for all levels of paddlers and is where most of the activities are taking place.

supThe Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center (RMOC) is heavily involved and will be holding clinics including intro to kayaking, stand up paddle boarding maneuvers, group paddles, and basic safety and rescue procedures. The fun continues on Friday with a long day of events on the river accompanied by dry land activities. Competitions on the river include SUP surfing, the kayak rodeo finals, and the SUP-Downhill.
